Five Year plans.
- Modernise Russia.
- Encourage workers to work in cities.
- Build new industial cities.

1st five year plan.
- produced coal, iron and steel.
- target to complete in 4 years.
- workers had little skills.
- damaged equipments were not repaired.
- workers could not adapt to living in cities.

2nd five year plan.
- produced clothing.
- however predicted a war thus build military weapons.
- transport and communication improved.

3rd five year plan.
- war disrupted the five year plans.
- all resources were used on defeating Germany.

IMPACT OF INDUSTRIALISATION

Poor working conditions
- formed groups of highly-motivated workers
- unrealistic production targets
- disciplinary actions were taken to those engaged in sabotage.

Reward system
- salaries based on each worker's production amount.
- medals and discounted holidays.
- encouraged to surpass daily targets

Change living conditions
- basic goods neglected.
- Russians suffered.
* workers had cheap meals and free uniforms.
* subsidised healthcare and extensive leisure facilities.

FORCED COLLECTIVISATION

- farmers didn't want to abandon traditional way of life.
- experienced civil war which led to food shortages.
- assassinated communist officials who were ordered to claim any crops from farmers.
- rich, farmers who owned land, kulaks were blamed for failure of collectivisation.
- kulaks resisted. rather burn their crops then hand them to the government.
